\'Dogs Hold on for a 5-2 Win at Trenton

(Trenton, NJ) - RHP Junichi Tazawa (9-5) tossed five strong innings and DH Jon Still went 2-for-5, HR and 3 RBI as the Portland Sea Dogs (44-47) defeated the Trenton Thunder (45-46) 5-2 on Friday night at Waterfront Park. The win for Portland evens the series at one game apiece and improves to 5-3 against Trenton

Still ignited the scoring with a 2-out blast in the second inning after a lead single by 1B Lars Anderson. The homer was the 11th of the season for Still, who finished with 3 RBI (infield-single in the third) and leads the team with 52. In the same frame, RF Jason Place singled and scored on CF Josh Reddick's run-scoring double. Portland added a run in the fourth inning off losing pitcher RHP Ryan Pope (3-7). 2B Iggy Suarez and Reddick began the inning with walks, Suarez advanced to third base on a catcher's error and scored on LF Ryan Kalish's sacrifice fly. Pope allowed six hits, five runs (three earned), four walks and two strikeouts over 4 IP.

Tazawa scattered five hits over 5 innings, allowing just a run-scoring single to 1B Chris Malec in the fourth inning. RHP Chris Province tossed two innings, allowing two hits and one run (not earned). RHP Bryce Cox recorded his seventh save of the season with two scoreless innings.

Notes...C John Otness went 2-for-4, BB and his 4-for-8, HR and 4 RBI in the series...Tazawa improved his team-leading strikeout total to 83...Anderson, Otness, Place and Still all had two hits apiece...Cox is scoreless in 14 of his last 17 appearances.
