Memphis Redbirds News Release
Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis had just enough offense to beat Round Rock Wednesday night 2-1 at AutoZone Park.
The Redbirds scored two runs in the second inning and held on to win despite having a season-low three hits. Back-to-back doubles from Jarrett Hoffpauir and Mark Johnson gave the Redbirds all the runs they would need. Hoffpauir drove in Rico Washington, who had walked, and Johnson's double scored Hoffpauir. Washington later added the âBirds only other hit with a single in the fourth inning.
Memphis starter Jess Todd was impressive in his Triple-A debut giving up one run on four hits over 6.1 innings. The former Arkansas Razorback fanned six and walked one to earn the victory. Runelvys Hernandez took the loss after allowing two runs on two hits with five strikeouts across two innings.
Nick Gorneault scored the only run for the Express with a home run in the seventh inning. Round Rock had only four hits on the night.
The Redbirds host the Express tomorrow night with game time slated for 7:05 p.m. Memphis is scheduled to send right-hander P.J. Walters to the hill to face Round Rock's Josh Miller.
