Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Colorado Springs, CO - The Colorado Springs Sky Sox scored seven times in the bottom of the eighth inning to turn a 5-4 lead into a 12-4 advantage on their way to a 12-5 win over the Sidewinders on Wednesday night.
Jailen Peguero came in to pitch the bottom of the eighth but couldn't keep the game close. Matt Miller led off with a single and moved to second on Edwin Bellorin's ground ball out to second base. Peguero walked Jeff Dragicevich and Chris Frey singled to center to score Miller. Adam Melhuse then hit what looked to be a routine double play ground ball to Jesus Merchan but Merchan couldn't handle it cleanly loading the bases. Mike McCoy walked to force in a run, Christian Colonel cleared the bases with a three run double and Joe Koshansky added a RBI two base hit of his own. Jamie D'Antona misplayed Matt Miller's ground ball allowing Koshansky to score and cap the inning.
Koshansky drove in two runs to push his season total to 104. He now leads all of Minor League Baseball in that category.
The Sidewinders scored first on Jamie D'Antona's solo home run to right-center in the top of the second. D'Antona, playing in his first game since being sent down by the D'Backs, homered twice in the game and just missed a third. He now has 19 home runs on the season.
Jason Hirsh pitched well to earn the win for Colorado Springs. Hirsh (4-3) allowed three runs on seven hits in 6.2 innings. He walked two and struck out two.
