Raptors 905 (14-14), the NBA G League affiliate of the Toronto Raptors, dropped the first of two matchups against the Lakeland Magic (15-13) 102-124 Thursday afternoon. Jeff Dowtin Jr. led the way for the 905 with 21 points, eight assists, and three steals while the Magic's Zavier Simpson added 24 points, 10 assists, and two steals in the contest.
The two teams opened their first game of the season trading baskets before the 905 took an early three-point lead going into the second. The Magic quickly found their rhythm going on a 17-2 run in the early minutes of the quarter. The 905 fought back, bringing the game within six, but the visitors closed out the half holding onto the 11-point advantage.
Through a tightly contested third quarter, the Magic were able to outscore the 905 33-32 in the quarter holding onto the 12-point lead going into the final frame. The visitors continued to build off their momentum in the fourth, as strong shooting allowed Lakeland's lead to reach 23 points, eventually sealing the road victory.
The 905 received complementary scoring from Darryl Morsell who contributed a career-high 21 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two blocks off the bench. The Magic were paced by Nuni Omot's 20 points, six rebounds, and two steals.
The two teams complete their season series Saturday afternoon, tip-off slated for 2:00 pm.
