Greensboro Swarm News Release
(GREENSBORO, NC) - Kobi Simmons recorded a season-high of 32 points to propel the Greensboro Swarm, the NBA G League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, over the Mexico City Capitanes in 118-107 victory on Thursday evening at the Novant Health Fieldhouse.
Simmons' outstanding scoring display came on 12-of-20 shooting from the field and 50-percent from beyond the arc. Simmons surpassed his previous high of 30 points, which was recorded on February 15 against the Motor City Cruise. Following the contest, Simmons is only 21 points shy of becoming Greensboro's all-time leading scorer.
The second game of the home series saw the Swarm jump out to an early seven-point lead in the first quarter. Akin to Wednesday's contest, Greensboro built a 14-point lead which was erased by an offensive charge from the Capitanes. Mexico City's Rigoberto Mendoza scored 16 points in the second period to give the Capitanes a seven-point advantage headed into halftime.
Following the break, Greensboro and Mexico City traded the lead five teams, before the Swarm were able to close out the quarter with a narrow lead. Headed into the final period, Greensboro turned to its guards, Simmons and James Bouknight, to seal the victory and improve to 9-19 in the regular season. On assignment from the Hornets, Bouknight recorded 27 points in the victory, which included 17 second-half points and an impressive 7-of-9 performance from behind the three-point line.
In addition to Bouknight and Simmons' sensational play, two Swarm players recorded double-doubles. Trevon Scott, who was recently acquired by Greensboro, had 22 points and 11 rebounds in 36 minutes. Theo Maledon, a two-way player, matched Scott's 11 rebounds and had a game-high 10 assists in 35 minutes.
Mexico City had three players with 20-plus points in Thursday's contest. Skylar Mays earned a season-high of 26 points, while Skal Labissiere and Mendoza finished the game with 23 points each respectively.
The Swarm will make a quick pit-stop in Texas to take on the Austin Spurs in its next matchup on Saturday, March 18 at 8 p.m. at the AT&T Center.
