Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Thanks to a pair of late home runs, the Brooklyn Cyclones took down the Greenville Drive, 5-4, in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Maimonides Park. The win snaps a 3-game skid for Brooklyn.
RHP Blade Tidwell was fabulous, striking out 10 batters, tying a career high. It's the most punchouts registered by a Brooklyn starter this season.
Brooklyn got the party started in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from C Kevin Parada to take a 1-0 lead.
Greenville responded quickly though, with two in the fourth thanks to an RBI double from LF Miguel Ugueto and an RBI base knock from 2B Karson Simas.
The Drive added to their lead in the sixth, when SS Max Ferguson drove in a run on a liner to center. From there, up 3-1, CF Eduardo López logged a sacrifice fly to give Greenville some insurance.
That insurance though, proved not to be enough. In the bottom of the seventh, 2B César Berbesi smoked a two-run shot to right to bring the Cyclones within one. One frame later, SS William Lugo laced one over the wall in right, practically in the same spot his teammate did an inning prior. That blast gave Brooklyn a 5-4 lead, which they would not relinquish.
After the league-wide off day on Monday, Brooklyn returns to action on Tuesday on the road against the Aberdeen Ironbirds. First pitch is slated for 7:05 at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium. Probable pitchers are to be determined.
