Las Vegas, NV â The Las Vegas Wranglers fell to the Idaho Steelheads 3-1 on Saturday night in front of 7,078 fans at the Orleans Arena. The crowd of 7,078 marked the sixth time the Wranglers have surpassed 7,000 fans in the team's history. Idaho's Frank Lukes and Warren Peters each scored power-play goals to lead Idaho over Las Vegas for the fifth time this season. The loss marked the fifth time in team history the Wranglers have fallen below the .500 mark (20-21-5). Las Vegas rookie Dustin Johner scored his team-leading 19th goal of the season. The Wranglers continue their home-stand as they host the Long Beach Ice Dogs again on Friday night at 7:05 pm.
In the first period, Peters scored on the power play on a cross-ice pass from Lukes for the 1-0 lead at 5:50. The Wranglers countered six minutes later when Jason Bonsignore set up Johner for the game-tying goal at 11:43.
In the second period, Idaho took advantage of a 4-on-3 power play with Las Vegas defenseman Deryk Engelland in the penalty box for tripping. Lukes cranked a shot from the left-wing circle past Sebastien Centomo for the 2-1 Idaho lead at 10:21.
In the third period, Captain Dan Vandermeer added an empty-net goal with 19 seconds remaining for the 3-1 final.
The Wranglers will continue their seven-game home stand on Friday, February 18th when they host the Long Beach Ice Dogs at 7:05 pm. Saturday, February 19th the Ice Dogs and Wranglers will meet again at 7:05 pm.
