Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

Fort Wayne, IN - David Pauley, who pitched for Fort Wayne in 2003, became the 51st former Wizard to appear in a major league game when he started for the Boston Red Sox against the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Pauley was promoted from the Red Sox double-A affiliate Portland after going 2-3 with a 2.39 earned run average in 10 starts. He made his major league debut in place of the injured David Wells for Boston.

Pauley was fourth in the San Diego Padres system in 2003 with a 3.29 ERA and was second on the Wizards staff with 21 starts, 117 2/3 innings and 117 strikeouts. Despite missing a month with a shoulder injury, he was 7-7 with one save for the Wizards.

He came into this season with a career minor league record of 33-36 with a 3.92 ERA and 464 strikeouts. He was obtained by the Red Sox in December of 2004, along with outfielder Jay Payton, infielder Ramon Vazquez and cash considerations for outfielder Dave Roberts.
