West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK - Jeramy Laster hit a home run for the Whitecaps off the scoreboard in the left-center field to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth, but with two runs in the top of the sixth Dayton came back for a 4-2 win over the Whitecaps. The result ends a six game winning streak for the West Michigan and a six-game losing streak for the Dragons.
Starting pitcher Burke Badenhop hit the first two Dayton batters of the sixth inning. Both of them - Mike Griffin and Yoni Lasso - scored with the decisive runs on an RBI single to center by Habelito Hernandez. The second run came home when Laster's throw from center went past third and into the Dayton dugout.
Dayton had three separate leads in the game. The Dragons scored in the first on a double by Eric Eymann and in the second on the first home run of the season by Gerardo Cabrera.
Dusty Ryan tied the game at 1-1 with a bases loaded single in the bottom of the first.
Whitecaps second baseman Max Leon picked up his first professional hit with a led-off double in the bottom of the ninth.
Travis Wood pitched five innings and allowed both West Michigan runs but earned the win to improve to 5-0.
