
4-1 Win Over Chicago, Gives Iowa Three Point Lead Over Omaha

CHICAGO, IL - The Iowa Stars traveled to Chicago, Illinois to face the Wolves for the first game of their three-straight game set on Saturday night. Behind the strength of two power-play goals, the Iowa Stars posted a 4-1 victory in Chicago and extended their win streak to eight games. The fifth-straight road win, coupled with a loss by Omaha, gives the Stars a three-point lead in the race for the fourth and final playoff spot in the West Division.
Iowa Captain Dan Jancevski notched his second goal in as many games to give Iowa a 1-0 lead at 16:31 of the first period. The power-play goal was his ninth goal of the season, and along with 27 assists, continues his best offensive season of his five-year professional career.
Loui Eriksson spotted the visiting Stars a 2-0 lead with his team-leading 27th goal of the season just :19 seconds into the second period. Junior Lessard picked-up the lone assist. For Eriksson, the goal pushed his points-streak to a new franchise-high eight games. He also established a new team-streak for goals by tallying a goal for the fourth-straight game. With the two teams skating 4-on-4, Chicago's Scott Barney pulled the Wolves to within one goal at the 4:55 mark of the middle frame.
Toby Petersen earned his second assist of the game, and Eriksson recorded his second point of the game when they assisted on Jamie Johnson's wrist-shot power-play goal. Petersen closed out the scoring with an empty-net goal. In his last four games, Petersen has garnered two goals and five assists: 4(2/5/7). His season totals lead the Stars and reflect a brand new career high in points. His new totals show 24 goals and 44 assists: (24/44/68).
Iowa Stars goaltender Mike Smith made 35 saves, including 16 in the third period. He now has won his last six games.
The win snapped Chicago's nine game winning streak.
Saturday's game saw the return of Janos Vas to the Iowa lineup. Vas missed the previous 13 games.
