July 7, 2019 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Three recent TinCaps pitchers will represent the San Diego Padres in the 2019 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, which will be played at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 7 at Progressive Field in Cleveland. MacKenzie Gore and Luis Patiño, 2018 TinCaps, plus Adrian Morejon from the 2017 squad, were selected to the National League roster. The SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, which is now in its 21st year, features the top Minor League prospects competing as part of All-Star Sunday.
Gore, the Padres' first round pick (third overall) in the 2017 MLB Draft, spent all of the 2018 season with the TinCaps, posting a 4.45 ERA in 16 starts with 74 strikeouts in 60 2/3 innings as he battled through a blister and subsequent finger-nail injury. The 20-year-old has been nearly unhittable with Lake Elsinore (High-A) this season, recording a miniscule ERA of 1.02 in 15 starts (79 1/3 innings) with 110 strikeouts. Gore is currently the top prospect in the Padres system and the third overall prospect in all of baseball (MLB.com).
Patiño was merely 18 years old when he pitched in Fort Wayne last season, yet he fooled the Midwest League throughout the season, racking up 98 strikeouts in 8 1/3 innings to go along with a 2.16 ERA in 17 starts. The native of Barranquilla, Colombia, has continued his success with Lake Elsinore this season, recording a 3.38 ERA in 14 appearances with 80 strikeouts in 61 1/3 innings. Patiño is currently the third overall prospect in the Padres system and No. 40 in all of baseball (MLB.com).
Morejon, who's now with Double-A Amarillo at age 20, was part of San Diego's 2016 international signing class, inking for $11 million. The Havana, Cuba, native made six starts with the TinCaps during the 2017 season, posting a 4.23 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 27.2 IP as an 18-year-old. Morejon is currently ranked as the No. 4 prospect in the Padres top-ranked farm system (MLB.com).
Major League Baseball, in conjunction with MLB Pipeline, Baseball America and the 30 Major League Clubs, selected the 25 players currently on each team. Each Major League organization is represented and players from all full-season Minor Leagues were eligible to be selected. The Padres are the only team with three pitchers picked.
As part of its live All-Star Week programming, MLB Network will exclusively televise and MLB.com will live stream the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game at 7:00 p.m. (ET), with Greg Amsinger, Harold Reynolds, Heidi Watney and MLB Pipeline's Jim Callis on the call live from Progressive Field.
SiriusXM, the Official Satellite Radio Partner of Major League Baseball, will provide live play-by-play coverage of the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on MLB Network Radio (XM channel 89; Sirius channel 209) in addition to SiriusXM's other comprehensive live coverage from Cleveland. The game will also be available to SiriusXM subscribers on the SiriusXM app for smartphones and mobile devices and online at www.siriusXM.com/MLB.
