West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
BOWLING GREEN, KY - The West Michigan Whitecaps offense remained quiet for a second straight day, and Osmy Gregorio's RBI-single helped the Bowling Green Hot Rods walk off with a 3-2 victory on Sunday afternoon at Bowling Green Ballpark.
The loss ensures the Whitecaps a series defeat for the first time since being swept in a four-game series in Lake County to begin the second half of the season.
Bowling Green struck first in the third inning by taking advantage of a pair of walks by "Caps starting pitcher Hugh Smith before a two-out RBI-single by Osmy Gregorio gave the Hot Rods a 1-0 lead. A sacrifice fly by Bowling Green third baseman Ford Proctor extended the lead to 2-0. Meanwhile, 21-year-old righty and Hot Rods pitcher Easton McGee posted the second straight dominant performance by a Bowling Green pitcher, holding the Whitecaps to just two runs in six innings. In the sixth, the Whitecaps scored a run as Rey Rivera crossed the plate on a Hot Rods error before Parker Meadows blasted his second home run in as many days with a 409-foot moonshot over the Bowling Green Ballpark Video Board in right-center field to tie the game at two.
The score remained the same until there were two outs in the ninth when Gregorio bounced a game-winning single into center field to help Bowling Green win the second straight game of the series.
Hot Rods reliever Joel Peguero (2-0) tossed two scoreless innings while striking out three to earn his second win, while Yaya Chentouf (2-5) took his fifth loss of the year out of the bullpen. The Hot Rods improve to a Midwest League second-half best 13-4, with a 52-35 overall record, while the Whitecaps fall to 7-10 in the back half with a 28-58 overall record. Meadows and Rivera each recorded two hits to lead the "Caps offense, while Meadows homered for the third time in his last eight games.
