North Carolina FC News Release
The Carolina RailHawks and the North American Soccer League announced today their 2016 NASL Schedule. A new chapter will begin in North Carolina as the RailHawks celebrate their 10th Anniversary season and their first season under new owner, Steve Malik. The local entrepreneur, who purchased the RailHawks late last year, has worked with his staff to put together an exciting 2016 roster.
Each club will play each other once in the Spring Season, hosting five clashes at home and playing the other five away for a grand total of 10 matches. In the Fall Season, when expansion side Puerto Rico FC joins the fold, each club will play each other twice - once home and once away - for a total of 22 matches. The RailHawks will open the 2016 season at WakeMed Soccer Park on Saturday, April 2nd when they host Minnesota United FC, at 1:00 pm.
"We're already counting down the days to our home opener against Minnesota," said RailHawks President and General Manager, Curt Johnson. "2016 will be a very important year for the RailHawks, as we will be celebrating our 10th anniversary. It's particularly special that we'll be doing it under the guidance of our new owner, Steve Malik, and I think our supporters will see a lot of positive change on and off the field as we look to build a world class organization and bring our first NASL championship to North Carolina."
The 2016 RailHawks Spring Season schedule will include five home games. The RailHawks will face Minnesota United (4/2), Ottawa Fury FC (4/16), Fort Lauderdale Strikers (5/7), Miami FC (5/14) and Jacksonville Armada (6/4). All game times and the enhanced 2016 RailHawks television and radio broadcast schedule will be announced soon.
The Fall Season promises to be twice as exciting. The RailHawks will pick up a busy home schedule, starting on July 9th, when they host Tampa Bay Rowdies. The RailHawks will then host Miami FC (7/22), Puerto Rico FC (8/13), Indy Eleven (8/20), Jacksonville Armada FC (9/3), Ottawa Fury FC (9/10), FC Edmonton (9/24), New York Cosmos (9/28), Fort Lauderdale Strikers (10/8), Rayo OKC (10/12), and closing the regular season, Minnesota United FC (10/22).
The league's split-season competition, which led to an exciting postseason race down the stretch last year, will culminate with The Championship. As the league's four-team postseason tournament, The Championship features both the Spring Season Champion and Fall Season Champion, as well as the two other teams with the best overall combined records.
