April 10, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release

Season In Review In A Paragraph

The Grizzlies opened the year at 5-1, then had to survive four months of injuries, in which 22 players combined to miss 494 games. After regrouping with three trades, including a seven player blockbuster deal with San Francisco on March 5; Utah finished as the hottest team in the Western Conference at 6-1-1-4 in their last 12 and 8-3-1-5 in their last 17 games. The season came to an end Saturday with back-to-back overtime losses to the second best team in the ECHL during the regular season in Ontario.

Unbeaten Streak

Utah's ten-game unbeaten streak from March 8-29 was Utah's longest since 2009 and tied the team's longest unbeaten streak since joining the ECHL. It was just three-games shy of the team's all-time record 12-game unbeaten streak from December 31, 1994-January 27, 1995.

Four Players Of The Week

The Grizzlies led the ECHL with four separate players being named Player's Of The Week. Riley Armstrong (October 12-14), Brad Mills (November 26-December 2), Colin Vock (January 28-February 3) and Adam Estoclet (March 11-17) were all honored this season.

Back-To-Back Hat Tricks

On February 6, Utah leading goal scorer Colin Vock attempted to become just the fifth player in ECHL history to score a hat trick in three-straight games after he had three goals each February 1 and 2 in Ontario.

When Vock Scored

Colin Vock led Utah with 29 goals this season and the Grizzlies were 14-2-1-4 when Vock scored.

Hometown Hero Comes Home For Holidays

Just over six months after winning the Stanley Cup Championship as a member of the Los Angeles Kings, Salt Lake native Trevor Lewis signed with the Grizzlies during the NHL lockout on December 27 and had three goals and six assists for nine points in six games with Utah. He scored in all six games and had three multiple-point games before the lockout ended.

Ouch

Of the 22 players who missed games due to injury, six missed 40 or more games and 16 players missed 8 or more games due to injury.

As A Result

Utah used 50 players this year, including 43 skaters and 7 starting goaltenders.

Out Of The Gate, Strong Finish

For the second-straight year, Utah suffered an unbelievable amount of injuries, but with a full lineup was once again a top team. The last two seasons, Utah is a combined 12-2 out of the gate and a combined 16-6-1-6 to finish the year. Both starts and finishes lead the ECHL.

Head Coach

Kevin Colley concluded his fifth season behind the Utah bench. Not only is he the longest tenured Head Coach in Grizzlies history, but he's the longest current coach with a single team in the ECHL. He has led Utah to five-straight playoff appearances and a 157-152-50 regular season record.

Playoff Streak

The Grizzlies current stretch of six-straight playoff appearances is not only the longest stretch in team history, but it also is currently the longest of any professional sports team in the state of Utah.

Attendance

Grizzlies attendance this year at 4,622 fans-per-game was the team's highest since joining the ECHL in 2005 and almost a 5-percent increase over last year. Over the last 5 seasons, Grizzlies attendance has risen nearly 27-percent. Attendance continued strong into the playoffs as well with a league-high of 4,864 in the arena Friday in the Grizzlies playoff home opener. 4,864 was also the largest playoff crowd since the Grizzlies joined the ECHL.

Media Partners

The Grizzlies in 2012-2013 had major marketing agreements with KUTV, KSL Media Group, Cumulus Media, Clear Channel Broadcasting, Simmons Media, Z-104, Radio Disney, City Weekly, Reagan Outdoor Advertising and Media One of Utah.
