Stingrays Fall Short in Game 3 against Gladiators

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays fell to the Gwinnett Gladiators 3-1 in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals at the North Charleston Coliseum Wednesday evening. The Stingrays trail the best-of-seven series 3-0.

The Gladiators opened the scoring on the power play with a tally from forward Evan Bloodoff at 9:24 of the first period lifting a shot over the glove of Stingrays goaltender Ryan Zapolski (L, 31 saves on 33 shots) from the top of the right-wing circle.

Stingrays defenseman Scooter Vaughan tied the contest on the man advantage at the 12:00 mark of the second period blasting a shot past the left pad of Gladiators netminder Louis Domingue (W, 28 saves on 29 shots) from the point. Forward Robby Dee and defenseman Derek Foam added assists. After being outshot 16-3 in the opening period, the Stingrays retaliated with an 18 to nine shot performance in the middle frame.

Gwinnett reclaimed the lead early in the third period when a shot by defenseman Justin Weller deflected off of a Stingrays skate and past Zapolski. Forward Ryan Ginand sealed the victory for the Gladiators with an unassisted empty-net power-play goal with 29 seconds remaining in the contest. The Stingrays finished the game 1-for-5 on the power play while the Gladiators went 2-for-5.

Game 4 between the two teams is Friday, April 12 and Game 5 (if necessary) is Saturday, April 13 at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum.
