Saskatoon Blades News Release
On January 10th, 2009 the Saskatoon Blades will host the Moose Jaw Warriors in WHL regular season action. Prior to puck drop at 7:05 PM, there will be a banner raising ceremony to acknowledge the official countdown to the 2010 World Junior Hockey Championship hosted in Saskatoon and Regina.
Chad Allan, Peter Zakreski, and Hockey Canada representatives will be on hand as special guests for the ceremony. Allan, a former Saskatoon Blade, was a member of the 1995 Team Canada roster that captured gold in Red Deer, Alberta. Zakreski was the President of the 1991 World Junior Championship that was held in Saskatoon.
The game also marks the return of 4 Blades who have been away competing at international events. Rookie forwards Charles Inglis (Team West) and Josh Nicholls (Team Pacific) return after competing in the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. Nicholls and Team Pacific captured a silver medal, while Inglis and Team West finished 4th place in the tournament. The Blades also welcome back their two European players, Jyri Niemi (Team Finland) and Milan Kytnar (Team Slovakia), from the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship held in Ottawa. Kytnar was part of a Slovakian team that surprised everyone and almost made it to the gold medal game before losing to Russia in the Bronze medal match. Niemi and Kytnar were both assistant captains of their respective teams.
