Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, Manitoba -- A busy week - both on and off the ice - for the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings begins Tuesday night with a game against the Broncos in Swift Current.
The Wheat Kings will be hoping to extend their winning streak to five games and at the same time gain some ground on the front running Saskatoon Blades. The 23-13-2-1 Wheat Kings currently trail Saskatoon by six points, with a game in hand.
Brandon will host the Blades Friday night in the opening game of a 2-game weekend homestand at Westman Communications Group Place.
The Broncos meanwhile enter the game two points behind the Wheat Kings and have compiled a 7-3-0 record in their last ten games.
Off the ice, Wednesday is McWheat King Day at Brandon's newest McDonalds Restaurant and in recognition of this week's grand opening, several members of the hockey team will be there to sign autographs, take food orders and even work the drive-thru.
Following is a list of players scheduled to work this year's McWheat King Day at the Richmond Avenue McDonalds:
11:45 - 12:45: Mark Schneider, Colby Robak, Darren Bestland and Chad Erb
4-5:00 p.m.: Brayden Schenn, Matt Calvert, Jesse Hall and James Priestner
5-6:00 p.m.: Scott Glennie, Matt Lowry, Ryley Miller and Brodie Melnychuk
A busy week continues Thursday with four players, including Andrew Clark and Cale Jefferies, visiting area schools.
While Clark and Nathan Green attend Waverly Park School as part of the Brandon Police Service "Join the Team" program, Jefferies and Del Cowan will be serving lunch to the Brandon School Division's School Patrol Unit of the Month at New Era.
In addition to lunch, provided by Subway, Cowan and Jefferies will be signing autographs and distributing tickets to the school's forty patrols, courtesy of Manitoba Public Insurance and the Brandon Sun.
Tickets to this weekend's two games - Friday vs. Saskatoon and Saturday against Edmonton - are on sale now at the Keystone box office. Fans can also order by phone at 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca
