2009 Blue Bombers Draft Choices Finalized

WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers selected four players in the 2009 CFL Draft today.

Their first pick, in the third round (19th overall), was offensive lineman Mike Morris (6'5", 305), who played his college ball at the University of British Columbia.

Morris became a starter in his first season at UBC, and has anchored the UBC offensive line for the past three seasons. He also played in the 2008 East-West Bowl.

The Blue Bombers selected Wilfrid Laurier offensive lineman Adam Bestard (6'5", 290) 27th overall, in the fourth round. Bestard, from Sarnia, Ontario played in the 2008 East-West Bowl.

In the fifth round, Winnipeg chose running back Peter Quinney (6'1", 220) with the 35th overall choice. Last season Quinney had 10 receptions for 122 yards playing slot back with Wilfred Laurier. He was the 2008 Impact Player of the Year.

With the 45th overall selection, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers picked linebacker Thaine Carter (5'11", 214) from Queens.

Carter finished the 2008 with 42 total tackles. He played in all eight regular season contests and was named the team captain.

"We are very happy with the players we selected in this draft. They were all outstanding CIS players and should all come into camp with an opportunity to make the 2009 Blue Bombers," said Bob Dyce, the Bombers' Canadian College Draft Coordinator.

"I'm very pleased with the work John Murphy, Bob Dyce, and the rest of the coaching staff have done. We were able to get four players we had listed in the top 20. We are very happy," said head coach Mike Kelly.
