Riders stay close to home in CFL Canadian Draft

The Saskatchewan Roughriders looked down the road to the University of Regina for both of their draft selections in today's CFL Canadian Draft. U of R Defensive back Tamon George was selected in the 2nd round (9th overall). The Riders followed that up by selecting offensive lineman Nick Hutchins from the Rams in the 3rd round (17th overall).

Tamon George (6'0 - 180 lbs) was selected to play in the 2008 East West Bowl after starting in all eight regular season games at cornerback for the Rams. He finished last season with 18.5 tackles and two pass knockdowns. The 21-year old Regina native tied for second in Canada West with four interceptions during the 2007 regular season to go along with 17 tackles and five pass breakups.

Nick Hutchins (6'2 - 315 lbs) started all eight regular season games for the Rams in 2008. He was named a Canada West all-star and was a key part of a Rams offence that led the conference in passing yards (1809) and touchdown passes (10). In four seasons with the Rams, the 21-year old Regina native has started in 25 games on the Rams offensive line.
