(Vancouver) The BC Lions have made the most of their draft day so far with a first round feast of three picks including running back Jamall Lee (1st round, 3rd overall) who hails from Port Coquitlam, BC.

The Lions moved up one notch on the draft board by making a trade with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in order to acquire the highly regarded speedster from Bishop's University who recently signed a free agent deal with the NFL's Carolina Panthers.

The Lions followed up that selection by taking Lee's teammate from Bishop's University; linebacker James Yurichuk (1st round, 4th overall) and then finished off the opening round of the 2009 Canadian Draft by selecting Acadia University's standout receiver Matt Carter (1st round, 5th overall) who is another BC product.

"This has been an eventful and exciting first round for the club and our fans," said Lions GM and head coach Wally Buono. "We have been fortunate to acquire three players who can make an immediate impact on the field and help make us better."

Yurichuck started all eight games last season for the Gaiters and served as team captain. He finished third in the CIS with 59.5 tackles which also boosted him into second spot on the school's all-time career list with 164. The hard hitting Brampton, Ontario native was a Second-Team All-Canadian as well as a QUFL All-Star in 2008.

Carter was a four-time Atlantic University Conference All-Star ('05-'08) as well as a CIS Second-Team All-Star in 2006. The Kelowna-native was a primary target for Acadia quarterbacks for four seasons and helped lead the school to consecutive conference championships in 2005 and 2006.
