Hamilton, Ontario - With the first overall selection in the 2009 CFL Canadian Draft, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats selected Alberta Offensive Lineman Simeon Rottier.

"We're ecstatic to add an outstanding Canadian prospect like Simeon," said general manager Bob O'Billovich. "He's a tremendously talented player with a great attitude and was our primary target during the entire draft process. He will be a great addition to our offensive line."

Rottier (pronounced Row-teer), a 6-6, 286-pound native of Westlock, Alberta was named a 2008 first team All-Canadian and was a CanWest All-Star three times while anchoring the offensive line at the University of Alberta. The #1 ranked prospect on the CFL's Scouting Bureau list also earned 2007 second team All-Canadian honours.

The Ticats currently hold six more selections in the Draft.
