
Rottier, Légaré and Lee are Top Three Picks in 2009 CFL Canadian Draft

Toronto, ON - (May 2, 2009) - A total of 48 players were selected in today's CFL Canadian Draft as teams continue to shape their rosters in preparation of the 2009 season that kicks off on Canada Day, July 1st.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats began the draft by selecting top ranked offensive lineman Simeon Rottier, followed by the Toronto Argonauts selecting defensive lineman Ãtienne Légaré and the BC Lions trading up one spot to draft running back Jamall Lee.

38 players from the CIS and 10 players from the NCAA were drafted
Five players were selected from the University of Regina, the most of any school
Simeon Rottier is the first player from the University of Alberta to be drafted first overall in the CFL Canadian Draft (this does not include Territorial Exemption draft selections)
There was one draft day trade - the BC Lions traded their 6th and 13th picks overall for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 3rd pick overall.
Twelve offensive linemen were drafted, the most of any position
Bishop's running back Jamall Lee and linebacker James Yurichuk were selected 3rd and 4th overall respectively, marking the first time since 2005 (Laval & McMaster) that two players from the same school were selected in the opening round
The Calgary Stampeders, Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Montreal Alouettes led all teams with eight draft selections
Training camps for CFL teams open June 7th. The CFL on TSN season kicks off on Canada Day (July 1st) with an opening night doubleheader featuring Toronto @ Hamilton at 7 p.m. ET, immediately followed by Montreal @ Calgary at 10 p.m. ET in a rematch of last year's Grey Cup game.
