Altoona Curve News Release
HARRISBURG- Shelby Ford, Jim Negrych and Jason Bowers each recorded three of Altoona's 14 hits as the Curve won their third game in four games against the Harrisburg Senators with a 7-4 victory Saturday evening at Commerce Bank Park in Harrisburg.
With the win, Altoona (55-67) has clinched a series victory against the Senators (65-56) in the first of three stops on the club's 11-game road trip. The Curve will also visit Portland and New Hampshire this coming week as part of the team's longest trip of the season.
Ford fell just a double shy of becoming the first Curve player to ever hit for the cycle. In fact, the second baseman took care of the two hardest parts of the cycle in his first two at-bats, tripling to open the first inning before hitting a two-run homer in the second, which gave Altoona an early 4-0 lead. He finished the night 3-for-5 -- his second three-hit contest over the first four games of the set.
Negrych also went 3-for-5 and scored two runs, while Bowers snapped out of a 2-for-23 slide with three hits in four at-bats. Jonel Pacheco hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth to provide some key insurance runs in the Curve victory.
On the mound, Kyle Bloom (3-7) earned the victory to end a personal three-game losing streak. The left-hander allowed three runs over 5 1/3 innings to pick up his third win of the season.
Reliever Moises Robles had a big hand in preserving the win for Bloom, as the right-hander -- making just his fifth Double-A appearance -- tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief. The right-hander's highlight of the night was back-to-back strikeouts of Mike Daniel and Seth Bynum in the bottom of the seventh to keep the Curve on top by a 4-3 score.
Cory VanAllen (3-2) gave up four runs in four innings to take the loss for Harrisburg.
The Curve and Senators will conclude their five-game series Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. Righty Jared Hughes (1-1, 4.91) will seek his second consecutive win for Altoona against Harrisburg right-hander Bobby Brownlie (8-2, 3.67). Fans can hear all the action on the Curve Radio Network and on-line at AltoonaCurve.com starting at 12:50.
