11 Hits, Nine Walks Propel Legends to 7-3 Win

The Lexington Legends collected 11 hits and received nine walks from Kannapolis pitchers on the way to a 7-3 win over the Intimidators Friday night in Kannapolis.

Kannapolis took the lead with two runs in the first inning off Legends starter Luis Ordosgoitti. Ross Wilson led off with a walk, and after Grant Buckner flied out, Kevan Smith singled, moving Wilson to second base. Mark Haddow grounded into a force play at second, leaving runners at first and third. Rangel Ravelo followed with a double, scoring both Wilson and Haddow.

The Legends claimed the lead for good in the top of the third inning. Chris Epps drew a walk, the first of three he received in the game. A wild pitch by Kannapolis starter Scott Snodgress moved Epps to second, and with two outs, John Hinson's double scored Epps with Lexington's first run. Zach Johnson walked, and a passed ball allowed the runners to move up to second and third. Brandon Meredith's single brought home Hinson and Johnson to put Lexington in front 3-2. Meredith had four hits in five at bats in the game.

The Legends added two runs in the fourth inning. Roberto Pena led off with a single and moved to second on a one-out walk to Jimmy Howick. Hinson's two-out double brought home Pena and Howick to give Lexington a 5-2 lead.

Meredith led off the seventh with a single, but was forced out at second on Drew Muren's grounder. Muren advanced to second on Pena's ground out, and Epps and Howick walked to load the bases. Delino DeShields Jr.'s single scored two runs, and the Legends led 7-2.

Kannapolis scored its final run the in the eighth inning on doubles by Ravelo and Leighton Pangilinan and a sacrifice fly by Keenyn Walker.

Carlos Quevedo (2-1), who entered the game in the fifth inning, allowed one run and three hits in four innings and gained the win. He struck out six batters and walked none. Snodgress (1-2) was the losing pitcher.

DeShields stole his South Atlantic League-leading 25th base in the sixth inning.

Each team has won one game in the series, which continues Saturday. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
