Asheville Tourists News Release

The Asheville Tourists showed no signs of disappointment following Wednesday night's tough loss in Greenville. The T's played a strong game and came out with 6-2 victory over the Hickory Crawdads.

Tyler Anderson (2-0, 2.25) made his McCormick Field debut and dazzled the home crowd by pitching seven innings en route to his second win of the year. Anderson allowed two runs, only two hits, and one walk while striking out six. Asheville's lefty even went through a stretch where he retired 14 batters in a row.

Hickory started the scoring in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly from Kellin Deglan. Asheville answered back on Jose Rivera's RBI single in the bottom of the second; knotting the game at 1-1.

The Crawdads jumped back in front 2-1 with a run in the top of the third. Luis Sardinas reached base with one out and then caused some havoc on the base paths. Sardinas stole third and raced home on an errant throw by Ryan Casteel. Asheville's catcher clearly made up for the miscue, guiding the Tourists pitchers to retire the next 18 Crawdads' hitters.

Sam Mende put the Tourists in front for good with a two-run Home Run in the bottom of the third. The blast was Mende's fourth of the season and provided the T's with a 3-2 lead.

The game remained 3-2 until Asheville added one in the seventh. Rivera stole third and raced home on a Deglan throwing error, almost identical to what happened with Sardinas. Asheville tacked on two more in the eighth to ensure the win.

The Tourists and the Crawdads will play a double-header at McCormick Field on Saturday with game one slated to begin at 5:35pm.
