Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Savannah, GA - Fingernails have to be in short supply these days in the Augusta GreenJackets dugout as the GreenJackets have played their share of nail-biters this week. The latest came on Friday night when Cody Hall picked up back-to-back strikeouts in the ninth inning to leave the tying and winning runs on base in a 4-3 GreenJackets win over the Savannah Sand Gnats.

Carrying a 4-2 lead into the ninth, Hall allowed a leadoff triple to Charley Thurber, who scored on Greg Pron's groundout to cut Augusta's lead down to one run. Brandon Brown singled and Cam Maron walked to put the tying run in scoring position and the winning run on base for Savannah. Hall buckled down to strike out TJ Rivera and Dustin Lawley to end the game and preserve his league-leading tenth save in Augusta's seventh one-run win of the season and third this week.

For the second night in a row, the GreenJackets scored first as they got a pair of runs in the second inning. Michael Mergenthaler dribbled an infield single as the third of three straight hits in the inning and a fielding error on that hit brought Jose Cuevas in to sore to put the GreenJackets up 1-0. Later in the inning, Kelby Tomlinson's RBI groundout put Augusta ahead 2-0. The GreenJackets added another in the sixth on Jeff Arnold's RBI single.

In the bottom of the sixth, Savannah got on the board with a two-out Brian Harrison RBI double to make it a 3-1 game. The Sand Gnats made it a one-run game on Aderlin Rodriguez's two-out, eighth-inning solo shot. The home run was Rodriguez's fifth of the year and third against the GreenJackets.

Augusta got a much-needed insurance run in the ninth when Savannah second baseman Brandon Brown's throwing error with two outs brought home Augusta's fourth run of the game. That run gave Hall the breathing room he needed to seal the win in the bottom of the ninth.

Adalberto Mejia (3-3) allowed a run on two hits in two innings of relief to get his third win of the year out of the bullpen. Chris Marlowe, Augusta's starter, allowed two hits in four scoreless innings - walking three and striking out four. Tyler Pill (3-3) scattered three runs on eight hits in six innings to get the loss, at one point retiring nine straight GreenJackets.

The GreenJackets look for their third straight win on Saturday with Kyle Crick (1-2, 2.03) heading to the mound against Michael Fulmer (2-2, 3.25). First pitch from Savannah comes at 6:05 p.m. with radio pregame coverage beginning at 5:50 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1340 AM and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.

The GreenJackets return home on Thursday May 24th to open a four-game set with the Sand Gnats on another Thirsty Thursday, presented by The Library. First pitch comes at 7:05 p.m. with gates opening at 6. Fans can enjoy dollar domestic drafts and soft drinks throughout the night. Single-game tickets for any GreenJackets home game are currently available by calling the GreenJackets front office at 706-922-WINS and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
