PREVIEW: Despite blasting four home runs, the Shorebirds lost game one 13-11 to the unrelenting Suns, who scored four runs in the seventh to take the lead for good. The Shorebirds are three games below .500 for the first time this season and 11 games out of first place with 32 to go. The Shorebirds are 2-11 in their last 13 road games.
FIRST FOUR-HOMER GAME SINCE 2007: The Shorebirds last had a four home run game back on July 5, 2007 against the Hagerstown Suns at Municipal Stadium. On that night, Billy Rowell, Chris Vinyard, Miguel Abreu and Brandon Snyder went deep. The last time the Shorebirds hit five home runs in a game was back in 2005.
HOPPY & ESPOSITO HIT FIRST: Kyle Hoppy hit his first pro homer last night in his 94th career game while Esposito hit his first in his 37th career game. Hoppy hit his first in his 311th career at-bat while Esposito needed 144 at-bats for his first homer.
18-GAME ON BASE STREAK: Jason Esposito takes a 18-game on-base streak into game two of the road trip. The last time he didn't reach base was on April 26. During the stretch, Esposito is batting .314 (22-70) with ten RBIs. He has hit safely in 14 of the 18 games.
7-GAME HIT STREAK: Glynn Davis takes a 6-game hit streak into game one against Hagerstown (9-for-29, .310). Davis has reached base in 13 straight games.
WEBB HAS HIGHEST BA SINCE...: After a 2-for-4 game last night, Brenden Webb is now batting .258 on the year, the highest his average has been since April 15 (.268). Webb hit .217 in 20 games in April. By contrast, he is batting .309 in 15 games in May. Webb is tied for the team lead in doubles (10, Delmonico), he leads the team in triples (3) and he also is tied for the team high in home runs with three.
TOP TWO RBI PRODUCERS: The Shorebirds have the top two RBI producers in the Orioles farm system. Nicky Delmonico leads all Orioles minor leaguers with 25 while Brenden Webb ranks second with 24.
EARLY PRODUCTION: The Shorebirds have scored a first inning run in four straight games (6 total). The lead after scoring in the first has evaporated by the third in all four games.
