New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Luis Figueroa hit a three-run homer with two out in the bottom of the 10th inning, rallying the Salt Lake Bees past the New Orleans Zephyrs 6-5 on Monday night.

The Zephyrs had grabbed a 5-3 lead in the top of the 10th, after Brian Barden led off with a double and Mike Lamb walked. After Danny Richar laid down a sacrifice bunt, the Bees elected to intentionally walk Bryan Petersen, but Davis made them pay by grounding a single to left to plate the go-ahead runs.

Scott Strickland was summoned to close out the game, but walked Michael Ryan and Paul McAnulty with one out. After retiring Hank Conger on a fly ball to left, Figueroa sent Strickland's 0-2 offering over the right field wall to give Salt Lake the comeback victory.

The stunning loss prevented the Zephyrs from climbing above .500 for only the second time since April 22. Coupled with Oklahoma City's loss, the Z's remain four games out of first place in the division race.

New Orleans got three-hit nights from Barden and Scott Cousins, who led off the game with his 11th home runs and was 3-for-3 with two RBI before leaving the game in the sixth inning with a hamstring injury.

The Zephyrs outhit the Bees 13-8, and were aided by five Salt Lake errors, but the Zephyrs stranded 10 baserunners. Included was a missed opportunity in the seventh, when the Z's loaded the bases with one out before Jason Bulger struck out Lamb and Cameron Maybin to escape the jam.

Bobby Mosebach (2-0) was credited with the win, despite allowing the two runs in the top of the 10th. Strickland (4-2) took the loss, while suffering his fifth blown save in 18 chances this season.

Coming Up: The Z's and Bees resume the series at 8:05 p.m. on Tuesday in Salt Lake City, with RH Tom Mastny (4-2, 2.88) facing RH Amalio Diaz (3-4, 4.89). RADIO: WMTI 106.1 FM
