Madison Capitols News Release
MADISON, WI - Goaltender Dryden McKay backstops the Madison Capitols to a 4-1 win over the Chicago Steel at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena on Saturday night. Madison is on a four-game win streak and a seven-game point streak.
Madison (13-14-0-2) is ranked eighth in the Eastern Conference with 28 points. Chicago (14-11-1-2) is tied for fifth place in the Eastern Conference with 31 points.
Left wing Alec Broetzman put the Capitols up 2-0 with his 13th goal of the season. Defenseman Jared Kucharek sprung Broetzman down the left wing of the Steel zone on a breakaway. Broetzman snapped a wrist shot from the left face-off circle that slipped between the legs of goaltender Oskar Autio at 17:27 of the second period.
The Capitols lit the lamp at 11:31 of the middle frame with center Anthony Callin's seventh tally of the season. Center Ludwig Stenlund stole a pass from a Chicago player before chipping the puck up center ice to Callin who skated in all alone on Autio. Callin wristed a shot past Autio's blocker and into the net to give Madison a 1-0 lead.
Right wing Ryan O'Reilly put the Capitols up 3-0 at 2:11 of the third period. Carrying the puck over the offensive blueline and into the right face-off circle. The rookie goal scoring leader slipped the puck passed the netminder for his team-leading 16th goal of the season.
The Steel put a goal up on the scoreboard with defenseman Matteo Pietroniro's first goal of the season. Skating on the power play, left wing Blake McLaughlin fed the puck to left wing Aaron Vidgren at the right point. Vidgren found Pietroniro at the center point for a one-timer and goal at 7:06 of the final stanza for a score of 3-1.
Center Michael Mancinelli finished off the scoring with his seventh goal of the season at 11:36 of the third frame. Broetzman and Mancinelli played catch in the neutral zone before the rookie center carried the puck down the right wing and into the face-off circle. Mancinelli snapped a wrist shot past Autio's blocker for a 4-1 final score.
McKay (12-10-0-2) earned his 12th win of the season, stopping 31-of-32 shots. Autio (12-8-1-0) took his fifth loss of the season with 28 saves on 32 shots.
Madison was 1-for-7 on the power play. Chicago went 1-for-9 with the man advantage.
Notables: Madison is on a seven-game point streak, and four-game winning streak...Left wing Alec Broetzman added a goal and assist to the scoreboard...Goaltender Dryden McKay halted 86-of-88 shots in the last two games.
