: Rox Split Doubleheader with Express in Front of Sellout Crowd
July 20, 2018 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
St. Cloud Rox News Release
St. Cloud, MN - Bobby Seymour (Wake Forest) went 3-3 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored to help lead St. Cloud to a 9-3 win over Eau Claire in game two of the doubleheader. It was a sellout crowd as more than 2,100 fans were in attendance.
After falling behind 2-0, St. Cloud used a five-run third inning to gain serious momentum throughout the remainder of the game. With Sean Ross (San Diego State) on second base and Connor Aube (UT-Arlington) on first base, Ricardo Sanchez (Arkansas at Pine Bluff) executed a perfect bunt down the third base line. An overthrow from the Eau Claire pitcher to the third baseman scored two runs and tied the game.
Ryan Weisenberg (Georgetown) followed Sanchez with a walk, setting up a scoring opportunity for Seymour. He delivered and drilled a double to the fence in center field that scored Sanchez and advanced Weisenberg to third base, who would later score on a passed ball. Hance Smith (UC-Berkeley) picked up an RBI later in the inning on a sac-fly to left field. The Rox took a 5-2 lead and wouldn't look back.
The scoring would continue in a big way in the fourth inning, as four more runs would come home for St. Cloud. Jack Barrie (Northwestern Ohio) drilled a bases loaded single into left field that scored Aube. Then Sanchez and Seymour scored on wild pitches to keep the scoring going. Barrie would later score in the inning on an error from the Eau Claire second baseman. Following the fourth inning, St. Cloud had put up nine unanswered runs.
Jake Stevenson (Minnesota) made his first start of the year and earned the win in 3.2 innings pitched. He was relieved by Kyle Richardson (Texas A&M), who proceeded to toss the remaining 3.1 innings. The two combined for five strikeouts in the win.
St. Cloud now opens a two-game series with the Willmar Stingers. First pitch of Saturday's game is scheduled for 7:05 PM at Bill Taunton Stadium. The team will then host the Stingers on Sunday for the final game before the All-Star Break. It is Team Poster Giveaway Night presented by Rengel Printing and Bulldog Photo to the first 1,500 fans. It's also a Coborn's Kids Day. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 PM at the Rock Pile.
