
Mallards Go for Six Straight

Madison, Wis. - The Madison Mallards (7-8, 35-16) take on the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (7-8, 22-28) tonight at Warner Park looking for their sixth straight victory. After a slow start to the second half, the Mallards have found their groove, outscoring opponents 26-7 over the last five games. Tonight's game features Pyrotechniq Fire Troupe and Wisconsin Lottery Night.
Over the last week, the Mallards have been clicking thanks to an offense that has posted more than ten hits per game. The Mallards swept a three-game series against the Lakeshore Chinooks before defeating the Rafters last night up north. The Mallards pitching staff has been on a roll over the last five games, only allowing a total of 26 hits.
Probable Pitchers
The Mallards plan to send Illinois righty Ryan Kuttto the mound tonight to make his eight start of the summer. Kutt owns a 5.01 ERA and a 3-2 record while working 32.1 innings and striking out 26 batters. Kutt will be making his first start against the Rafters this season and worked 5.0 innings of five-hit ball in his last outing. Kutt will be looking to utilize the stuff that propelled him to a 7.0-inning one-hit outing against the Woodchucks on June 28.
The Rafters will be starting Tyler Giovinco tonight at the Duck Pond. Giovinco will be making his fourth start and will looking to move his record to 3-0. The lefty has tossed 16.0 innings and has held opponents to a .241 average while striking out five.
Players to Watch
Mallards shortstop Garrett Kueber (Austin Peay) has been on fire over the last week and a half, hitting .441 over his last ten games and totaling 15 hits. Kueber leads the Mallards with 19 hits in July and has also drawn a team-high 11 walks.
Third baseman Tyler Plantier (Richmond) has been a key run producer during the Mallards hot streak, hitting .300 and knocking in 11 runs over his last ten games. Plantier leads the team with 41 RBI and 11 home runs.
