Barons extend home ice winning streak to four with 5-2 win

CLEVELAND, OH -- The fourth consecutive win on home ice for the Barons came in the first meeting of the year against the Peoria Rivermen. Patrick Rissmiller, Steve Bernier, Tomas Plihal, Josh Hennessy and Garrett Stafford all registered multi-point games for the Barons. Dimitri Patzold made 36-saves for his first win on home ice in four tries and just his second appearance since December 6th.

Trading power play goals the two teams skated to a 1-1 tie after twenty minutes of action. Former Barons forward Jon DiSalvatore assisted on the game's opening goal, a power play strike from Peoria's Peter Sejna. The goal by Sejna was his AHL leading 13th power play goal of the year. Steve Bernier answered for the Barons on a power play with 24-seconds remaining in the period, his team leading 14th goal of the season. The goal by Bernier was assisted by Matt Carkner and Patrick Rissmiller giving the Barons a power play goal in 12 of their last 15 games played. Dimtri Patzold made his first appearance in goal for Cleveland since December 6th and made 9-saves on 10 shots-on-goal from the Rivermen. Reinhard Divis made the appearance for Peoria with 14-saves through the opening period.

In a similar period the teams exchanged even strength goals for a 2-2 tie after forty minutes of action. Josh Hennessy gave the Barons their first lead of the afternoon with his 9th of the season on a rebound. Trent Whitfiled answered for the Rivermen less than a minute later to tie the game at 2-2. Bernier and Plihal, who both registered three points in the game, assisted on Hennessy's tally.

The Barons secured their fourth consecutive win on home ice scoring the third period's only goals for a 5-2 win. Bernier and Plihal tallied power play goals for a 4-2 lead before Hennessy completed the afternoon with an empty net tally. Patrick Rissmiller had a big day offensively tying a franchise record with 4-assists in the game. Josh Hennessy also scored a multi-point game with two goals. The Barons set a season high with 43-shots on goal in the game, out-shooting Peoria 43-38.

Tomorrow afternoon at 5 O'clock the Barons will host the Manitoba Moose putting a close to a three game home stand.
