Munford's 24 Points Elevates Jam Past D-Fenders

EL SEGUNDO, CALIF., February 28, 2015 - Xavier Munford scored 24 points (9/14 FGs) and grabbed six rebounds off the bench, helping the Bakersfield Jam (27-11) defeat the Los Angeles D-Fenders (11-27) 116-107 on Saturday night at the Toyota Sports Center.

Jamil Wilson paced Bakersfield in the first quarter, scoring 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting. With a 32-28 lead entering the second frame, Bakersfield maintained the lead throughout the quarter and went into the break with a 64-59 advantage.

Despite holding Los Angeles to just 34.8 percent shooting in the third period, the D-Fenders won the quarter 25-22 and made it a two-point game (86-84) heading into the final frame. In the fourth, Bakersfield took control from start to finish as they shot 54.2 percent from the floor, compared to Los Angeles' 27.8 percent, and held a lead as big as 14 points in the final minutes of the game.

Wilson (22 points, 10 rebounds) and Mac Koshwal (10 points, 16 rebounds) each had a double-double for the Jam. Jerel McNeal added 17 points while Casey Prather tallied 14 points. Renaldo Major contributed 12 points and four steals off the bench. With Major recording four steals on the night, he is now tied with Maurice Baker (Santa Cruz Warriors) for most steals in NBA D-League history (441).

Jabari Brown led the D-Fenders with 48 points (14/27 FGs), while Roscoe Smith registered a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Vander Blue finished the night with a triple-double (14 points, 11 assists, 10 rebounds).

Bakersfield finishes the month of February with a 7-2 record, including a season-high five game winning streak during games played Feb.6-Feb.19. The Jam will next play on Wednesday, March 4 at Oklahoma City Blue. Tip-off is set at 5:00 p.m. PT.
