Whistle-Clean Wolves Win at Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Forwards Pat Cannone and Ty Rattie scored 73 seconds apart in the second period to lift the Chicago Wolves to a 4-2 victory Wednesday night at Van Andel Arena.
Forwards Shane Harper and Adam Burish also scored goals while Terry Broadhurst handed out a career-high 3 assists for the Wolves (21-15-4-1), who weren't whistled for any penalties for just the third time in their 1,851-game history.
Grand Rapids (19-16-3-1) opened the scoring 12:14 into the game on left wing Kevin Porter's goal. The Wolves turned over the puck at their blue line to center Mark Zengerle, who dropped the puck back to Porter in the high slot. Goaltender Jordan Binnington got his glove on Porter's wrister, but not enough to prevent it from going into the net.
The Wolves answered just 59 seconds later as they took advantage of a Grand Rapids turnover behind the net for Harper's fourth goal in the last five games. Terry Broadhurst dug out the puck and flipped a quick backhand to Harper, who swooped in from the right circle to elevate the puck past Griffins goaltender Jared Coreau.
Chicago seized a 3-1 lead with two goals in the opening 3:27 of the second period. Cannone scored at 2:14 as he set up just outside the crease and redirected Brent Regner's wrist shot from the right point.
The Wolves received the game's only power play shortly thereafter and Rattie came through with his team-high 17th goal of the season. Broadhurst worked the puck across the ice to Rattie, who skated patiently around the left circle before sniping a shot over Coreau's blocker.
Grand Rapids cut the margin to 3-2 at 8:37 of the second when Griffins captain Jeff Hoggan collected a rebound just outside the crease and roofed it home.
The Wolves clinched matters with 1:04 to play when Colin Fraser sacrificed his body to block a shot in the slot. Rob Bordson grabbed the puck and fed it over to Burish, who buried the empty-net goal from just beyond the red line for his first tally with the Wolves.
Binnington (12-6-2) posted 30 saves to earn his second win in three days. Coreau (6-6-1) rejected 23 of 26 shots in the loss.
The Wolves continue their five-game road trip with a 7:30 p.m. game Friday against the Texas Stars. They return to Allstate Arena on Saturday, Jan. 31, to face the IceHogs and wear their Fight Against Cancer specialty jerseys for the final time.
