Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - Mitch Walding drove in seven runs over a Friday night double-header as the BlueClaws and Delmarva split two on Friday night. Lakewood won the night-cap 11-1, a game that included a Walding grand slam, after Delmarva won the opener 4-2.
Walding's grand slam, which put the BlueClaws up 4-0 in the 4th inning of game two, was his 5th home run of the season and the first BlueClaws grand slam since Chance Numata hit one on May 10th, 2013 at Greensboro. The Lakewood third baseman drove in both BlueClaws runs in the first game and he drew a bases loaded walk in the 5th inning of game two to account for his seven RBIs.
All four runs on the grand slam were charged to Dariel Delgado, and all were unearned after an error by Delmarva third baseman Drew Dosch. The BlueClaws added five more runs in the 5th inning against Alexander Santana. Andrew Knapp had two RBIs and Andrew Pullin had three hits in the game two win.
The 11 BlueClaws runs were their most scored since June 29th and their 6th double-digit scoring output of the season.
Ranfi Casimiro, who allowed one run over five innings, improved to 4-9 on the season after earning the victory.
In the first game of the double-header, Creede Simpson and Conor Bierfeldt hit back-to-back home runs in the second inning off Lakewood starter Yacksel Rios as the Shorebirds topped Lakewood 4-2. Rios (5-1) took his first loss of the season after allowing two runs over five innings. Delmarva's Bennett Parry (1-1) gave up two runs in five innings, both scoring in the bottom of the 6th on a two-run Walding single, and got the win. Delmarva had pushed their lead to 4-0 with two runs in the top of the 6th against Will Morris.
The BlueClaws (19-29/46-71) snapped a three-game losing streak with their game two win. Delmarva (20-27/58-59) has taken two of the first three in this five-game series.
The teams continue their series on Saturday night at 7:05. LHP Matt Imhof (0-1, 4.15) opposes RHP Janser Severino (1-2, 6.62) at 7:05 pm.
