Hot Rods Swept Despite Ames Gritty Effort

Bowling Green, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (30-27) were defeated by the South Bend Silver Hawks (38-17) in a 5-0 decision on Monday at Bowling Green Ballpark. South Bend swept the series with its win in the finale and dropped Bowling Green to its sixth consecutive loss. Andrew Toles and Luke Maile hit first-inning singles for the Hot Rods in the contest.

The Silver Hawks jumped ahead with a pair of runs in the second inning. Alex Glenn and Pedro Ruiz got on base ahead of Mike Lang, who sent a line drive down the left field line for a two-run double. South Bend added two more runs in the seventh inning and another score in the eighth to finish the scoring.

Hot Rods pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts in the contest, including a game-high four from LHP Jose Molina. RHP Matt Ramsey added to the total by striking out the side in the last inning. Joey Rickard also chimed in with positive plays on two walks and two stolen bases.

The Hot Rods do not have a game scheduled for Tuesday, but Bowling Green will return to the diamond for a three-game series with the Dayton Dragons beginning on Wednesday. First pitch on Wednesday is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT with Hot Rods LHP Blake Snell (1-4, 3.82) pitching against Dragons RHP Robert Stephenson (5-3, 3.32).
