
Padgett, Hogan Selected Scholar-Athletes for May

MIDLAND, Mich. - Two student-athletes from the Great Lakes Bay Region have been selected as the May winners of the ESPN 100.9-FM Scholar-Athlete of the Month, presented by Hammer Restoration. Tara Padgett, a senior from Freeland, and Preston Hogan, a senior from Birch Run, were both honored on an ESPN 100.9-FM feature.
Padgett is a three-sport athlete and plays on the golf, basketball and soccer teams. She served as a captain on the golf team for three years and was a captain for the basketball team for two years. Nominated for this award by her golf coach, Mike Ritt, she was a four-year letter winner on the golf team, earning local and state accolades. Padgett is also a three-time first team all-conference selection in golf.
Off the field, Padgett is a member of the Freeland Scholars and has maintained a 3.54 GPA during her four years of high school. As a junior, she earned Academic All-State honors. As a senior, she has been dual-enrolled at Delta College.
Hogan is a three-sport athlete and is on the football, wrestling and track teams. Nominated by Rob Livingston, Birch Run's technology director, Hogan has been selected to all-conference teams for football and wrestling. He also placed as a runner-up in districts for wrestling and serves as a captain for the track team.
The Birch Run senior is a member of both the National Honor Society and the technology department. Hogan maintains a 3.73 GPA and is in the top 25 in his class ranks.
