Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, WI - Rio Ruiz hit a seeing-eye, go-ahead single into right field in the eighth inning and the Quad Cities River Bandits would go on to defeat the Beloit Snappers, 2-1, in Midwest League action with 331 on hand at Pohlman Field on Monday night.
The loss drops the Snappers out of a wild card spot with a record of 32-25. Quad Cities moves into the wild card spot at 32-24.
Jonathan Singleton's one out double put a man in scoring position for Quad Cities in the top of the eighth and Ruiz (2-3, 2 RBI) came through later in the frame with a clutch, two-out single. Mike Hauschild (4-0) threw a scoreless ninth to finish off a night in which he threw four shutout innings to pick up the victory.
The fans were treated to an outstanding pitcher's duel for most of the evening. Colton Cain was handed the ball by the River Bandits and responded by allowing one run in five innings. Beloit got on the board against Cain thanks to a second inning, RBI double by Ryan Delgado (2-3, RBI).
Derek DeYoung started for the Snappers and continued his stellar season with six strong innings, allowing only one run. It was Ruiz who got Quad Cities on the board when his sixth inning sacrifice fly brought in Singleton. Ruiz would again come through for the River Bandits in the eighth.
Beloit will take a day off before heading north to play the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in a three game series. Game one of that series has a scheduled 7:05pm start time. RHP Austin House (0-4, 3.62 ERA) takes the hill for the Snappers and he'll face RHP Tyler Wagner (5-3, 2.88 ERA). The team returns home on Tuesday, June 11th to face Wisconsin on a College and Dollar Night. A valid college ID will get you a general admission ticket for $1. Hot dogs, small sodas, Pizza Hut pizza slices and small popcorn are just $1 on this night. Twelve ounce drafts of Leinie's products will be $1.50 courtesy of Ott Schweitzer Distributing.
