Joel Licon Joins Kernels from Extended Spring Training

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that INF Niko Goodrum has been placed on the 7-day disabled list with a concussion and that INF Joel Licon will join the Kernels from Extended Spring Training. Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the move.

The Twins selected Licon in the 25th round of the 2012 First Year Player Draft out of Orange Coast College and he spent last season with the GCL Twins where he it .250 with 2 HR and 21 RBI in 49 games.

Goodrum collided with Kane County catcher Wilson Contreras in a play at the plate in the middle of the 3rd inning of Sunday's game. In 48 games for the Kernels he is batting .270 with a home run, 28 RBI, 12 doubles, three triples and five stolen bases in seven attempts.

Licon will join the Kernels in Geneva, IL and be active and available for the Kernels 6:30 pm game tonight with the Kane County Cougars. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster is at the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with two players currently on the disabled list.
