Providence Bruins News Release

Manchester, NH -- The Providence Bruins defeated the Manchester Monarchs 4-3 this evening at the

Verizon Wireless Center. Christian Hanson, Graham Mink, Torey Krug and Carter Camper scored for Providence. Michael Hutchinson made 24 saves as the Bruins improved to 43-21-0-5, tying for the top spot in the AHL.

After clinching their first playoff berth since 2009 last night in Albany, the Providence Bruins showed no signs of slowing down coming into Manchester. In the final game between the two teams in the season series, the Bruins got a 1-0 lead just 4:11 into the game. After Manchester's Andreoff was assessed with an elbowing major and game misconduct, the Bruins were awarded a five minute power play on which Hanson gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead.

The Monarchs answered at 6:36 of the second to tie the game 1-1. However, the Monarchs couldn't stay with the Bruins for long as Garnet Exelby fired a bomb from the point and Mink deflected it past Martin Jones to take a 2-1 lead at 10:05. Carter Camper also assisted on the go-ahead goal. The trend of back-and-forth hockey continued as the Monarchs answered just over a minute later to tie the game 2-2. Yet again, the Monarchs couldn't hang on, allowing the Bruins to regain the lead just a minute after they tied it up. Krug's shot from the point made found its way past traffic in front as well as a screened Jones. Kevan Miller and Kyle MacKinnon assisted.

The Monarchs came out hungry for a goal in the third, but could not break past Hutchinson who made some phenomenal saves to keep the Monarchs off the board. Instead it was Camper who got his eighth of the year on the empty net at 19:10. Miller earned his second helper of the night and Tommy Cross also assisted on the play. The Monarchs had a last ditch effort goal with four seconds to play, but it was simply too little, too late as the Bruins held on for the 4-3 win.

The Bruins return to The Dunk on Friday, April 12 versus the Hershey Bears. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. for Kids T-Shirt Night. The first 1,000 kids 12&under will receive a free t-shirt courtesy of Graphic Ink, Washington Trust, Seekonk Supply and Super Cuts.
