Royals Sign Defenseman Nathan Martine

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed defenseman Nathan Martine ['MAR teen ee'] to an ECHL contract. In a separate transaction, the Royals released forward Jeff Corey from his ECHL contract.

Martine (6'2/211) (24), who hails from Port Colbourne, Ontario, recently completed a four year stint with the University of Guelph, where he recorded twelve assists and eighteen penalty minutes in 28 games this seaason. In 105 total games with the Gryphons, Martine scored nine goals, assisted on thirty-six others (forty-five penalty minutes) and racked up 110 penalty minutes. Prior to kicking off his Canadian University career, Martine played 314 total major junior games with four different teams in the Ontario Hockey League, where he registered 128 points (30g-98a) and 441 penalty minutes. Corey, who hails from Boothwyn, Pennsylvania, played five games with the Royals and scored one goal.

The Royals return to action tonight (Saturday, March 9 @ 7:05 pm) at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania, when the team take on the Wheeling Nailers. On Saturday, the Royals anticipate a big crowd for Scout Night. We'll also honor the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce. The game day broadcast will kick off on CBS Sports Radio 1240 am and 98.5 fm at 6:35 pm with the Pre-Game Warm-Up Show presented by Steve Moyer Subaru.
