January 26, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Syracuse Crunch News Release
Syracuse, NY- Alex Killorn and Richard Panik each scored three points as the Crunch took down the St. John's IceCaps 6-3 tonight at the War Memorial Arena.
Nine Crunch players registered at least a point as the Crunch improve to 25-10-2-4 overall and 9-6-2-2 at the War Memorial Arena. Riku Helenius did not allow a goal tonight, stopping all 15 shots he faced in relief of Dustin Tokarski. Tokarski saved 15 of 18 shots he faced, prior to being ejected in the second period.
Killorn opened the scoring by breaking a three-game power play drought at the 14:50 mark of the first period. Killorn took a feed in the middle of the ice that beat IceCaps netminder Eddie Pasquale stick side.
JT Wyman sent the Crunch into the first intermission with a two-goal lead thanks to a shorthanded, unassisted goal with 2:23 to play in the period.
The IceCaps scored three goals early in the second period to jump out to 3-2 lead less than five minutes into the middle stanza. Dean Arsene deflected the puck past a screened Tokarski 1:46 into the period. Kael Mouillierat pushed the puck across the goal line after a blocked shot at the 2:05 mark. St. John's added a power-play tally from Patrice Cormier 4:46 into second period.
Frustrations boiled over at the 5:36 mark of the period with JF Jacques fighting Raymond Sawada and all five skaters joining the altercation. The highlight of the conflict came when goalies Tokarski and Pasquale squared off at center ice. After a lengthy bout both Tokarski and Pasquale were ejected from the game, replaced by Riku Helenius and Mark Dekanich respectively.
Kyle Wilson tied the game when he deflected an Evan Oberg shot past Dekanich for his first goal as a member of the Crunch 9:16 into the second period.
Killorn scored his second goal of the game on the power-play 3:40 into the final frame. Tyler Johnson found Killorn with a cross-crease pass that he lifted over Dekanich for the eventual game-winner.
Crunch defenseman JP Cote added his first goal of the season at the 15:58 mark and Panik picked up this third point of the game with an empty net goal with 16 seconds to play.
