Monsters Down Marlies 4-3 In Overtime

The Lake Erie Monsters, AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche, defeated the Toronto Marlies by a score of 4-3 in overtime tonight from Cleveland.

David van der Gulik opened the scoring for the Monsters at 3:53 of the first period. Toronto would respond just past the midway point of the opening frame on Nicolas Deschamps' sixth goal of the season. The Marlies would grab a 2-1 lead heading into the second period when Simon Gysbers tallied a powerplay goal at 18:33. Michael Sgarbossa's 15th goal of the year tied the game at two on a powerplay at 7:43 of the middle frame. With the Marlies on a man advantage just over one minute later, Tim Connolly notched his second goal in as many games. Thomas Pock equalized for Lake Erie at 12:52 of the second period. After a scoreless final frame, Michael Sgarbossa notched his second goal of the night, to give the Monsters a 4-3-overtime victory.
