David Laliberte Returns
January 24, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Adirondack Phantoms News Release
Popular forward David Laliberte is returning to the Adirondack Phantoms! The 26-year-old who scored 18 goals and 28 assists for Adirondack in 2009-10 has been signed to an AHL contract. The Phantoms have also announced that center Kory Nagy has been signed to a Professional Tryout (PTO) contract from the Trenton Titans. Both players will be eligible to play beginning Friday night against Albany.
Laliberte will go back to his familiar Phantoms jersey number 10 while Nagy will wear number 19.
David Laliberte, 26, was one of the more popular players on the Adirondack roster in the Phantoms' first season in Glens Falls in 2009-10. He also was called up to the Philadelphia Flyers that season where he played in 11 games scoring two goals. He scored a goal in his NHL debut on October 31, 2009 against Carolina. He also played in an NHL playoff game on April 22, 2010 against New Jersey as the Flyers were on their way to the Stanley Cup Finals.
Laliberte was traded to the Anheim Ducks organization in November, 2010 along with Patrick Maroon in exchange for Rob Bordson and Danny Syvret. His most recent AHL games were at the end of that season after he was traded to Boston and played for the Providence Bruins. His last game for the Phantoms was on November 20, 2010 at the Norfolk Admirals. His most recent game at the Glens Falls Civic Center was February 4, 2011 when he played for the Syracuse Crunch at Adirondack.
With the Philadelphia Phantoms in 2008-09 he set career highs with 28 goals and 48 points. He also scored the only hat trick of his professional career on April 1, 2009 against the Albany River Rats.
Last year, Laliberte played with the Wolfsburg Grizzly Adams in Germany but his season was cut short by a knee injury. Once recovered, he joined the Trenton Titans (ECHL) a few weeks ago and played in five games from January 11 through January 20 scoring one goal and one assist.
Laliberte was a fourth round selection of the Flyers in 2004 out of the P.E.I. Rocket and Montreal Rocket of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
Kory Nagy is familiar with the Glens Falls Civic Center from all his time with the Albany Devils the past couple of seasons. Coincidentally, his first games for the Phantoms this weekend would be against Albany in a two-game series.
Nagy was a fifth round selection of the New Jersey Devils in 2008 out of Oshawa of the OHL. The 5'11" center has played with Devils' minor league clubs in Lowell (AHL), Albany (AHL) and Trenton (ECHL). He set career highs with the Trenton Devils in 2009-10 with 9 goals and 22 points. Last year with Albany he had 4 goals and 4 assists playing in 53 games.
This season with the Trenton Titans on an ECHL contract he has 3 goals and 12 assists in 36 games.
