Hurricanes Assign Nodl, Sutter To Charlotte

RALEIGH, NC - Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has assigned forwards Andreas Nodl and Brett Sutter to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Nodl, 25, split the 2011-12 season between Philadelphia and Carolina, totaling eight points (3g, 5a) and eight penalty minutes in 60 games. The Vienna, Austria, native was acquired from the Flyers on waivers on Nov. 29, 2011, and appeared in 48 games with the Hurricanes, earning seven points (3g, 4a). Philadelphia's second-round selection in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Nodl has totaled 35 points (15g, 20a) in 175 career NHL games with the Flyers and Hurricanes.

Sutter, 25, is serving his second consecutive year as the Checkers' captain, and currently ranks fifth on the team with 11 goals and eighth on the team with 20 points. The Viking, Alb., native is in his sixth professional season and played in a career-high 15 NHL games with Carolina in 2011-12, registering three assists. Since making his NHL debut with Calgary on Dec. 23, 2008, Sutter (6'0", 200 lbs.) has earned five points (1g, 4a) in 34 career NHL games with the Flames and the Hurricanes. Carolina acquired Sutter from Calgary via trade on Nov. 17, 2010.
