Gustafsson Selected to AHL All-Star Classic

January 17, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Adirondack Phantoms News Release

The American Hockey League has announced that Erik Gustafsson (D) has been selected to play in the 2013 AHL All-Star Classic on January 28 in Providence, RI. This is the second time he has been named to the annual league showcase of star players. He also played in the All-Star Classic in Hershey in 2011 as a rookie and won the puck-handling contest in the skills competition the day before the game.

This year's game will air locally on Time Warner Cable Sports (Channels 50 and 1803-HD in Glens Falls) and on various cable channels throughout the U.S.

Erik Gustafsson (24 GP, 3-11-14, 27 PIM) is in his third season with the Adirondack Phantoms. The Kvissleby, Sweden native came to the Philadelphia Flyers' organization from Northern Michigan University at the end of the 2009-10 season.

Last year, he played in 30 games with the Philadelphia Flyers scoring 1 goal and 4 assists. He also played in 28 games with the Phantoms registering 1 goal and 16 assists. Perhaps his career highlight and the biggest goal of his life came on April 22, 2012 in Game 6 against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the playoffs. He beat Marc-Andre Fleury to virtually nail-down the series and advance Philadelphia to the next round.

Recent Phantoms to have played in the AHL All-Star Classic:

Michael Leighton, 2012 (Atlantic City, NJ)

Erik Gustafsson, 2011 (Hershey, PA)

Jon Matsumoto, 2010 (Portland, ME)

Danny Syvret, 2009 (Worcester, MA)

New Adirondack addition Brian Boucher also played in the 1998 All-Star Classic in Syracuse as a member of the Philadelphia Phantoms.

"Gus" has been out of action the past few weeks with a lower body injury. If he is unable to play in the All-Star Classic then he will be replaced on the roster.
