Kane County Cougars News Release
BELOIT, Wisc.-A 6-0 advantage nearly slipped away late for the Kane County Cougars, but they held on for a 7-5 victory over the Beloit Snappers on Thursday night at Pohlman Field.
Tim Ferguson put the Cougars (54-55, 20-19) on top in the top of the second as he bounced a single into center which brought Michael Antonio to the dish. As Eddie Rosario tried to throw out Alex Llanos at third base, the ball got away, allowing Llanos to score. Ferguson came home on a bloop base hit off the bat of Kenny Swab to cap a three-run frame against starter Tyler Jones (2-4).
Three more runs scored for the visitors in the fourth inning with Ferguson boosting the rally as he singled to knock home Llanos for the second time. Jack Lopez delivered a two-run triple off the fence in left, chasing in Dean Espy and Justin Trapp to give Kane County a six-run cushion. Edwin Carl returned from Wilmington to make a spot start in place of Kyle Smith and tossed four-plus innings while limiting Beloit (57-52, 18-21) to just three hits.
Rudy Brown (2-0) replaced Carl in the fifth and kept the Snappers scoreless through two more innings. Beloit finally got on the board in the seventh when Matt Koch scored on a passed ball. Espy's RBI double in the eighth got that run back before Mike Giovenco struggled through the ninth inning. Beloit picked up four runs in the final frame on two-run singles from Rosario and Kennys Vargas before Giovenco was finally able to slam the door.
