
Captains Avoid No-Hitter But Fall 6-0

Lake County Captains News Release
(Comstock Park, MI) - The Lake County Captains (21-18, 52-56) were defeated by the West Michigan Whitecaps(19-20, 55-54) by a final of 6-0. Jeff Ferrell (4-4) pitched seven perfect innings striking out six. Ferrell got the win. In the eighth inning, Jade Todd pitched a 1-2-3 inning to push the drama to the ninth inning. In the ninth Dan Bennett entered the ballgame for West Michigan. Bennett retired Alex Lavisky on a ground out to second. Leonardo Castillo hit a ground ball to third base that took a bad hop and the third basemen Jason King could not handle it. The play was ruled an Error, initially. With two outs in the inning, Jose Ramirez lined a single to right field to break up the chance at history. The Whitecaps won 6-0. This was the ninth time Lake County was shut out on the season.
West Michigan scored two runs in the first inning. Brandon Loy singled and took second on a wild pitch. Aaron Westlake singled home Loy and it was a 1-0 Whitecaps lead. A double by Jeff McVaney made it a 2-0 score as Westlake came all the way around from first base to score.
In the seventh West Michigan put the ballgame out of reach. The Whitecaps used three hits in the inning to score four runs. The big blow was a bases loaded double down the left field line off the bat of Brandon Loy. The double cleared the bases and made the score 6-0. The Whitecaps won the ballgame by that final score of 6-0.
RHP Cody Anderson (4-6) got the start for Lake County and pitched three innings. Cody took the loss after allowing two earned runs on four hits. Kyle Petter pitched three innings. Petter did not allow a run and just gave up one hit and fanned two. Louis Head pitched the final two innings for Lake County and surrendered four runs, one was earned on four hits. Head walked one and struck out one in the game as well.
The Captains will conclude the road trip Friday Night in Comstock Park, Michigan. Lake County will send LHP Shawn Morimando (4-3, 3.44) to the hill to start. The West Michigan Whitecaps will counter with RHP Chad Smith (0-0, 0.00). First Pitch is at 7:00 PM.
