Lansing Lugnuts News Release

LANSING, Mich. - The Lansing Lugnuts, in conjunction with the Toronto Blue Jays, announced that pitcher Jesse Hernandez has been transferred to Lansing from the Dunedin Blue Jays (A-Advanced - Florida State League).

The 23-year-old Hernandez, a product of Central Michigan University and native of Grand Rapids, began the season in the Lugnuts' starting rotation and immediately dazzled, earning his way to the honor of the team's Player of the Month. In 13 appearances, 12 starts, the right-hander posted a 4-4 record with a dynamic 2.29 ERA in 78 2/3 innings. Hernandez's final first half start in Lansing was a bittersweet classic, taking a no-hitter into the eighth inning on June 12th at Fort Wayne before finishing with a heartbreaking one-hit 1-0 loss.

Hernandez was promoted to the Florida State League following that start, where he was used mainly in the Dunedin bullpen before receiving an opportunity in the D-Jays' rotation. On July 20th, the Michigander came within one strike of tossing a no-hitter vs. St. Lucie before serving up a clean single to Alonzo Harris. In the end, he settled for an 8 2/3-inning, one-hit, one-run, 12-strikeout masterpiece. In all, Hernandez was 1-2 with a 5.35 ERA in 33 2/3 innings for the D-Jays.

The Lugnuts' roster comprises 25 active players, with four players on the Disabled List and one on the Temporarily Inactive List.
