Snappers Fall Short 7-5

Beloit, WI- The Kane County Cougars pounced out to an early lead and were able to hold off a Snappers rally in the bottom of the ninth to take game three of series by a score of 7-5.

For the first time in the series, the Cougars got on the board first in the top of the second scoring three runs off of Snappers starter, Tyler Jones. Michael Antonio and Alex Llanos scored on an error by Eddie Rosario when Tim Ferguson singled to center. Ferguson went on to score off a single from Kenny Swab giving the Cougars an early 3-0 lead.

The Cougars tacked on another three runs in the top of the fourth starting with an RBI single for Ferguson scoring Llanos, who also singled. Jack Lopez then hit a two-out triple scoring Justin Trapp and Dean Espy.

Steven Gruver replaced Jones in the top of the fifth. Jones went four innings allowing eight hits and six runs, while striking out one.

Cougars' starter, Edwin Carl worked four scoreless innings.

The Snappers finally got on the board in the bottom of the seventh when Matt Koch scored on a passed ball by Swab. Koch got on base with a single, reached second on an error, then went to third on another passed ball.

Corey Williams came in for the top of the eighth and allowed one run when Espy doubled to score Llanos bringing the score to 7-1.

The Snappers attempted a rally in the bottom of the ninth when Mike Giovenco walked the first two batters, Koch and Tyler Grimes. J.D. Williams then singled loading the bases for Wang-Wei Lin. Lin struck out but Eddie Rosario singled scoring Koch and Grimes making it 7-3 Cougars. After a walk to Sano, Kennys Vargas singled in Williams and Rosario to bring the Snappers within two. Drew Leachman and Stephen Wickens weren't able to finish the comeback and Snappers fell 7-5.

The Snappers and Cougars finish their four-game series tomorrow night at Pohlman field with first pitch at 7:00 PM. On the mound for the Snappers is Matt Tomshaw, who is 2-2 with a 3.48 ERA in 15 games and 44 innings pitched.
